Fitbit ECG App gets the clearance to Identify Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)_TechnoSports.co.in

Fitbit ECG application now moved a step forward to identify Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) as it receives the clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as Conformité Européenne (CE) for its ECG app to assess heart rhythm. In case if lost within Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), heart rhythm, and ECG application, let me explain one by one.

Atrial Fibrillation or AFibv is an irregular heart rhythm that increases the risk of serious complications like stroke. Though there are some exceptions, studies suggest that around 25% of the AFib-related stroke cases find out they have AFib only after a stroke has occurred.

Now, Fitbit’s ECG application that is introduced in the recent product launch is well capable of monitoring the tiny blood volume fluctuations in the wrist as the heartbeats (PPG) and measuring the electrical activity of the user’s heart (ECG). Among these two, PPG reading has the ability to identify asymptomatic AFib.

Fitbit Sense is the first device from the company end compatible with the Fitbit ECG application. Through this users can check the reading of their heart on the spot to analyze AFib. To do so, users need to hold their fingers to the stainless steel ring on the watch for 30 seconds long. After that, the device will generate the output which the user can easily share with a doctor or some experts.

Let you know, as a part of the submission process to regulatory agencies, Fitbit conducted a multi-suit clinical trial across the US. Surprisingly, the result exceeded the target performance revealing the Fitbit algorithm can detect 98.7% of AFib cases and was 100% accurate in identifying study participants with normal sinus rhythm (specificity).

In the end, the Fitbit ECG application will be available from October and onwards to the users on Fitbit Sense in the following countries – India, countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Belgium, Portugal, Romania, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, and Hong Kong. If you are wondering about the availability of Fitbit Sense in India, well, it will come here in the fourth quarter of this year at Rs.34,999. Carbon/graphite stainless steel and white/soft gold stainless steel options will be there.
