The first patch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC (v1.001) has finally been released bringing some key stability improvements and bug fixes. For Steam, it’s 17.65 GB, and it is primarily aimed at improving the game’s stability by addressing unspecified bugs. It also corrects an issue in which the graphics preset is mistakenly set to Low for the first run of the game on the Steam Deck, despite having cloud save data attached to the Steam account.

The update also sets DLSS as the default anti-aliasing choice if your system is compatible with NVIDIA’s upscaler, as well as updates DirectStorage to its latest version. The patch notes don’t mention any specific performance improvements, though, so those with performance issues will likely have to wait for future updates. As Square Enix continues to polish the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC port, which has been an improvement on the Remake port, it can still be improved. Luckily, modders began to step in to polish the game’s graphics and add features.
There have been a number of 4K texture packs available to enhance the environmental and character textures to give the game a slicker look. Some modders have even gone so far as to create Cheat Engine tables to recruit both Sephiroth and Zack to the party and they work as intended in combat. Characters with modded features aren’t there yet, though, as players aren’t able to modify equipment or Materia yet either.
Although Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC is imperfect, the new chapter in this beloved series has already had its quality improved by a dedicated fanbase contributing to mods. Square Enix is likely to work out the remaining kinks with more updates, however, as well as performance optimizations.
