Gold medals have always been the standard World Cup keepsake. That’s about to change. FIFA has confirmed a first-of-its-kind addition to the 2026 tournament — championship rings, straight out of the American sports playbook.

## What Is FIFA Adding to the 2026 World Cup?

For the first time in tournament history, the winning squad will receive **NFL-style championship rings** alongside the traditional gold medals and iconic trophy. The move is a nod to the tournament’s return to North America — its first appearance in the region since 1994 — and borrows a tradition long associated with leagues like the [NFL](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League), NBA, and MLB.

## How Many Rings Will Be Made?

FIFA confirmed the rings will be part of a strictly limited run tied to the tournament year.

| Detail | Information |
| --- | --- |
| **Total Rings** | 2,026 (individually numbered) |
| **Rings for Winning Team** | 30 |
| **Fan Edition Rings** | 1,996 (Official Licensed Product) |
| **Design** | One side features the World Cup trophy; other side reflects the winning nation |
| **Extras** | Custom-fitted, individually numbered, with certificate of authenticity |

## When Will Players Receive Their Rings?

Immediately after the final, the winning captain and head coach will be given temporary rings to mark the moment. The permanent, custom-fitted versions for all 30 team members will be delivered later, ensuring a proper fit for what FIFA calls an achievement built to last a lifetime.

## Why This Matters

World Cup medals are often kept away in private collections, rarely worn. A championship ring gives players a wearable, everyday symbol of their achievement — part of FIFA’s push to make the 2026 edition its most innovative tournament yet.
