Although they’ve retired from playing the game actively, FIFA manages to give players the opportunity to play with players of the past. ICONS are some of the best players to ever grace the game.
This year’s inductees are no lesser than those who have managed to land an ICONS card earlier. So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at the new FUT ICONS introduced in FIFA 21.
1. Eric Cantona: 88,90,93
The king of Manchester United is also in the conversation of the best strikers of all time. Winning four league titles and two FA Cups while dazzling crowds in England with his sublime work on the ball, Cantona fully deserves a place among the ICONS.
2. Petr Cech: 86,88,91
To this day, he holds the record for the most clean sheets in the history of the Premier League. Considering the level of the players that have played in the English top-flight, Petr Cech deserves a better rating on his ICONS card than the ones we have.
3. Ashley Cole: 85,87,89
Ashley Cole is the best left-back to every play the game for England. To this day, he is the most capped full-back for the Three Lions. Considering his accomplishments as part of the Arsenal Invincibles and for fellow London club Chelsea, he should have been rated higher.
4. Samuel Eto’o: 87,90,92
Samuel Eto’o truly won it all throughout his career, starring for Inter Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea, he is regarded as the best African player of all time. The man won 4 Champions League titles with Inter, Barcelona (2) and Real Madrid.
5. Philipp Lahm: 87,89,91
Lahm is regarded as one of the most versatile, tactically sound and composed players of all time. Lahm led Bayern to the treble in 2013 and was also nominated for the Ballon d’Or that year. He lifted the World Cup with Germany in 2014. A truly legendary player, he will be an example for footballers well into the future.
6. Ferenc Puskas: 89,92,94
Considering the number of absolute legendary players who have played or Real Madrid, Ferenc Puskas is right up there with the best of the best. The striker led Madrid to three European Cups and has an award named after him as well. This only goes on to show how great he was in his playing days.
7. Bastian Schweinsteiger: 87,89,91
Schweinsteiger actually started out as a wide player before drifting in and settling as an anchor in midfield. Featuring most prominently for Bayern Munich and Manchester United. Regarded by many as one of the best midfielders of all time, he finally gets his place among the ICONS in FIFA.
8. Davor Suker: 85,87,90
Suker led Croatia to the World Cup semi-finals in 1998, and also managed to take home the Golden Boot in that very campaign. He is regarded as the best Croatian striker of all time and also won the double with Real Madrid in 1998.
9. Fernando Torres: 85,88,91
El Nino was one of the most feared forwards during his time at Liverpool. Despite not being able to replicate his form at Merseyside for Chelsea, he did manage to win the Champions League with the Blues. A striker for the big moments, he also fired home 82 goals for Atletico Madrid. Torres also won the Euro in 2008 and 2012 along with the 2010 World Cup with Spain.
10. Nemanja Vidic: 85,88,90
To this day, Manchester United fans consider Nemanja Vidic as the measuring stick to rate all of their new defenders. That is how impressive the Serbian was during his time at Old Trafford. One of the best defenders ever seen in Premier League history, Vidic now takes his place among his partner at the back, Rio Ferdinand.
11. Xavi: 88,90,93
Xavi was part of one of the most memorable eras in Barcelona history. Along with Iniesta, he is regarded as one of the best midfielders to ever kick a ball and was Barcelona through and through, winning everything with his boyhood club in a legendary career. He also won the Euro in 2008 and 2012 along with the 2010 World Cup with Spain.
