Fiat charging technology

Fiat is trying to do something revolutionary. The carmaker is trying to test a way to charge your electric car by the way of dynamic induction. A track was created by Stellantis N.V. that is named the “Arena Del Futuro”. The company has specified that this new pilot test track has been made by A35 Brebemi, the direct motor link between Brescia and Milan. This project has a lot of parties involved from international universities, and other public institutions. The Fiat 500 has been used for this purpose.

Fiat is trying to solve the problems of range and charging with this technology:

The new 1,050-meter circuit has been integrated and it is powered by a 1 MW electrical output. It is located on a private property of the A35 autostrada near the Chiari Ovest exit. The “Arena Del Futuro” is now open to putting the technology that is used to charge EVs to the ultimate test.

Stellantis has used a brand new Fiat 500 along with an Iveco E-Way bus that had been specifically made for the purpose of testing the system. Initial reports indicate that it has already traveled thousands of kilometers with positive results. The goal here is to show how the Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer System, which is the Centrepiece of the “Arena del Futuro,” is in all likelihood the solution to offer instant answers for decarbonization and fulfilling the environmental sustainability requirements in the mobility area.

Anne-Lise Richard, Head of Global e-Mobility Business Unit at Stellantis states, “This a cutting-edge solution to provide a concrete answer to the issues of range and charging, both of which customers are concerned about. We are accelerating our role in defining the mobility of the future and, in this sense, DWPT technology seems to us to be in line with our desire to offer a concrete response to customers’ requirements. Charging vehicles while they are on the move provides clear advantages in terms of charging times and the size of their batteries,” she concludes.

Stellantis is attempting to accomplish its ambitious electrification ambitions at its EV Day by offering services such as the DWPT system. By 2030, as per stats, over 70% of the vehicles it retails in Europe and over 40% of those sold in the USA will be low-emission vehicles.

This revolutionary technology will charge cars “wirelessly” using DWPT by driving in wired lanes with a novel turn mechanism underneath the asphalt. This technology will be used to charge any vehicle that has a unique ‘receiver’ that transmits energy from the road infrastructure to the battery, resulting in a “zero-emissions” mobility system. The improved connection through the Internet of Things technologies will provide better road safety along with continuous communication between the road and the cars that pass along. The road surface will also be improved to make it more durable while maintaining the inductive charge’s efficiency and efficacy.
