Juventus forward Federico Chiesa will be out for a considerable amount of time, after it was reported that he tore his ACL against Roma. Chiesa arrived at the medical examination centre on crutches the morning after the game.

‘Exams underwent at the J Medical confirmed an anterior cruciate ligament tear,’ a Juventus statement read. ‘It will be necessary to intervene with surgery in the coming days.’

Federico Chiesa sidelined for the foreseeable future

The winger had just assisted Paulo Dybala’s equaliser in the initial stages of the game, and was looking dangerous on his favoured wide positions. However, a tackle from Chris Smalling ended the night prematurely for the Juventus star, who was seen rolling around in agony.

Although it was initially assumed that he would be able to carry on, the player went down by himself after trying to turn away from his man shortly after. Half an hour into the game, Federico Chiesa had to be replaced by Dejan Kulusevski as he limped off the sidelines.

Juventus would end up winning the dramatic encounter, fighting back from 3-1 down to win 4-3, despite being a man down.

But, they have suffered a big blow in the loss of Chiesa. The winger is one of their best forwards, and would have been vital for the second half of the season. Moreover, he will also miss Italy’s World Cup qualifiers in Spring, which might make the challenge even more difficult for them.

Although the rumoured return date for him is in September, there is no further clarity about the situation just yet.
