FC Goa, one of the most successful clubs in the Indian Super League (ISL) history, is undergoing a major change for the upcoming season. The club has signed five new domestic players, including three experienced campaigners who are part of Igor Stimac’s national team.
Here is a rundown of the new signings: FC Goa’s Five New Domestic Signings for Next Season
Sandesh Jhingan
The biggest signing for FC Goa so far is experienced Bengaluru FC defender Sandesh Jhingan. He was India’s footballer of the year in 2021 and is expected to make up for the void left by the departure of Anwar Ali to ATK Mohun Bagan. Jhingan remains the top choice for Stimac in central defence.
Udanta Singh
Udanta Singh, who has been with Bengaluru FC since inception in 2013, joins FC Goa as a winger. He didn’t have a particularly good season with Bengaluru, but senior officials at Goa believe the winger has plenty to offer and will be a good enough replacement for Redeem Tlang.
Boris Singh
Boris Singh, who played for Jamshedpur FC, has now signed for FC Goa. He was part of the India under-17 squad for the FIFA World Cup in 2017 and has since then represented the likes of Indian Arrows, ATK Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur. His exploits in the Super Cup showed he can be tough to handle on the wings.
Raynier Fernandes
Raynier Fernandes joins Football Club Goa as a midfielder. He won the ISL double with Mumbai City in 2020-21 under Sergio Lobera and then moved to Odisha. The experienced player will strengthen the midfield of the club.
Dipesh Chauhan
FC Goa has also completed the signing of Bengaluru’s reserve team goalkeeper Dipesh Chauhan. The 19-year-old was BFC’s Player of the Season during his time with the junior team and gave a good account of himself during the NextGen Cup last year.
The club’s approach this season is different from the past, with experienced players being signed instead of lesser-known domestic players. FC Goa hopes that these new signings will help the team bounce back after disappointing finishes in the last two seasons. With the right mix of experienced and young talent, FC Goa could be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming ISL season.
