FC Goa have reached an agreement to appoint Manolo Marquez as their new head coach. The Hyderabad FC boss will be joining the Gaura after the Super Cup, which will be held soon. An official statement can be expected soon, which will confirm the decision.

Marquez has agreed a one-year deal with Goa, and will depart Hyderabad FC after a memorable three-year spell. During this time, he helped them win their first ever ISL title last season. This time around, he was able to execute a similarly impressive performance in the league but was unable to make it to the final again, or win the league. Hyderabad were eliminated by ATK Mohun Bagan on penalties in the semi-final.

The 54-year-old has previously worked with Spanish clubs like UD Las Palmas and Espanyol among others. His spell with Hyderabad also showed that he is not one to shy away from giving opportunities to youngsters.

Akash Mishra, Yasir and Nikhil Pujari were all trusted by the coach to leave their mark on the first team. Manolo Marquez had hinted that he would be leaving the club since the authorities did not share similar plans anymore.

And after finishing in seventh place this season, Goa could be set for a revival under Marquez when he takes over for 2023/24.
