FC Goa salvaged a point in the final minutes of their game against Odisha FC by playing out a 1-1 draw in the ISL. Here are the three key talking points from the game.

Poor finishing proves costly for Odisha FC

The only goal for Odisha FC came through a penalty converted by Jonathas at the hour mark. They could not find the back of the net despite having 8 total shots in the game, and it ultimately proved to be the difference maker in the game.

The goalscorer had the chance to run down the clock as well, but instead chose to go for goal himself. And that decision came to haunt them in the final minute of the match.

FC Goa had many more opportunities to score than Odisha, but were also not clinical in front of goal. They were trailing up until the final minute of stoppage time. After Jonathas’ effort was saved, it took only 21 seconds for Odisha to concede the equaliser courtesy of Alexander Jesuraj. The substitute headed a cross from Airam Cabrera past Arshdeep Singh to salvage one point from the game.

Odisha FC trapped in the middle

Had Odisha won the game, they would’ve been able to go up to fifth place. However, they failed to capitalise on the opportunity, and are now stuck in seventh. After seeming like guaranteed top four contenders earlier this season, it now looks like a season of missed opportunity for them.
