The screen has gone dim. James Tolkan, the legendary actor who defined authority as Back to the Future’s Mr.

Strickland, has passed away at 94. Beyond Hill Valley, his grit shone in Top Gun and Serpico.

A giant of theater and film, Tolkan leaves behind a 54-year marriage and an unforgettable legacy. Rest in power, legend.
