After clashing with Mohammad Hasnain on the pitch during a Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) encounter on Saturday, Chennai Super Kings batsman Faf du Plessis has suffered memory loss. MS Dhoni’s IPL teammate was admitted to the hospital for concussion treatment. He was released on Sunday after spending the night in the hospital. He thanked his supporters and gave them an update on his health in a tweet.
He tweeted, “thank you everyone for all the messages of support. I’m back at the hotel recovering. Have concussion with some memory loss but I will be fine. Hopefully, be back on the field soon. Much love”.
There were two scares for sports fans around the world on Saturday night. If Christian Eriksen’s on-field collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2020 encounter against Finland had the globe looking for good news on the midfielder’s condition, Faf du Plessis endured his own fright in Abu Dhabi.
David Miller blasted a down-the-ground shot off Mohammad Nawaz in the 7th over of Zalmi’s innings. Both du Plessis and Mohammad Hasnain dashed to the finish line to defend the boundary. While diving to stop the ball from crossing the line, du Plessis’ head collided awkwardly with an onrushing Mohammad Hasnain. Physios rushed to check on du Plessis, who was observed laying on the ground for a few minutes.
However, the former South Africa captain stood up and walked off the field by himself. He did not bat, though, due to concussion precautions. Eventually, he was transported to the hospital and changed as a concussion substitute by Saim Ayub.
Imari Visser, Du Plessis’ wife, then posted an emotional message on Instagram begging him to be admitted to a hospital. She shared a photo of the Protean, who was seen gripping his head in anguish and sporting a severe bruise on his neck.
Faf du Plessis’ wife Imari wrote on her Instagram story, “this is killing me right now. Surely he should be checked in hospital!”
