At the Livestream for Facebook Connect 2021, the CEO of the company Mark Zuckerberg, announced his ambitious Project Cambria. This new project is a next-generation, high-end Mixed Reality headset which will raise the bar for how customers will interact with virtual worlds.
Though the technology is still in its development stages, however, “encouraging progress” is being made towards a bridge between VR and AR, Meta which makes it feel like it will have a product ready as early as next year.
Speaking more on Project Cambria we know that it will be featuring high-resolution, full-color video passthrough to the headset’s screens. This will allow the device to showcase not only the physical space users are involved in, but, can also overlay it with augmented reality. Zuckerberg further explains that the cutting-edge nature of the device is requiring a price tag high end of the price spectrum price tag.
Project Cambria is expected to make use of a new generation of optics which will make the device slimmer than the existing headsets. Also, a new sensor will be handling the improved tracking features, algorithmically processing, reconstructing, and augmenting your immediate physical reality.
The headset will also come with a face and eye-tracking feature and they will also work in conjunction with avatars that closely mimic the actual movements into the digital reality of the users. And so that those lifelike avatar interactions are more engaging than simple digital video conferencing, and the CEO also announced Horizon Home for Oculus experience. This will be enhancing the existing virtual home by allowing users to invite digital friends over to play games and watch movies.
