Lyon are set to appoint their former player Fabio Grosso as the new head coach of their men’s first team. He will be replacing Laurent Blanc, who was sacked after a disastrous start to the season. Lyon are currently at the bottom of the table, losing three of their opening games and drawing one.Â
There were talks with former Napoli and Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso, but the agreement fell through after the owner was not in favour of the arrangement. Now, a different Italian will take charge of the first team to undo the damage done at the start of their season.
Fabio Grosso to join Lyon as new manager
Grosso played for Lyon as a full-back between 2007 to 2009. He started coaching with the Juventus youth academy in 2013, moving on to Bari, Verona, Brescia, FC Sion and Frosinone.
Last season, he was in charge of the Frosinone first team and guided them to Serie A after winning the Serie B title. However, he left the club at the end of the season to take up a new challenge.
And now, Fabio Grosso will take up his first job in one of the top divisions of Europe with Lyon. The new manager will likely be presented this weekend, when Lyon face Le Havre. He will officially start coaching the first team from Monday onwards.
