Fabio Cannavaro has been appointed the new head coach of Italian second division side Benevento. The Ballon d’Or winner has taken up a coaching job in his native Italy for the first time, and returns to the dugout after a year.
His last spell in management came with Guangzhou Evergrande in China, with whom he won the Chinese Cup and the Chinese Super Cup. The Italian also briefly managed the Chinese national team, before resuming charge of Evergrande.

The decision has been made official by the club, as they are currently in 13th place in the table and want to have the best chances of returning to the top flight. They were relegated in 20/21 and have only earned seven points from their first six games.
During his playing days, Fabio Cannavaro was one of the finest centre-backs in the world. He remains one of the only players in history to have won the Ballon d’Or as a defender. The defender featured for some of the top clubs in the world such as Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Parma before eventually retiring in 2011.
