The 2022 Belgian Grand Prix saw Carlos Sainz start the race at pole position, but with reigning world champion Max Verstappen emerge as the victor. The Dutchman was unable to start on pole due to grid penalties, like several other competitors.
With the win, he has moved 93 points clear of Charles Leclerc, and is somewhat comfortably at the top of the driver’s standings now. Sergio Perez finished second to make it a Red Bull one-two, with Carlos Sainz finishing third to complete the podium.

On the very first lap of the race, Lewis Hamilton crashed out after an entanglement with Fernando Alonso. Following the crash, Alonso called Hamilton an “idiot” who “only knows how to drive and start in first”.
The seven-time world champion appeared unbothered by the comments of his former teammate. “I don’t really have a response to it,” Hamilton, who took responsibility for the crash, said. “I know how things feel in the heat of the moment, but it’s nice to know how he feels about me.
“It’s better that it’s out in the open how he feels and, like I said, it wasn’t intentional, and I take responsibility for it – that’s what adults do.”
Verstappen became the first driver to win the Belgian Grand Prix from P14 or lower since 1995, when Michael Schumacher achieved the rest.
