Over the years, Apple has been at the forefront of innovation in technology, delving into a range of devices beyond its Apple Watch. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring wearables such as a ring, smart glasses, and enhanced AirPods equipped with cameras and extra sensors.
The Upcoming Apple Products
Smart Ring
Some time ago Apple’s design team came up with the idea of a “ring” mainly focused on health and fitness functions. This proposed wearable aimed to offer users a cost-effective option compared to the Apple Watch. While this concept was shared with Apple’s health team executives Gurman mentions that the company is not actively working on developing this finger-worn device. If eventually created the smart ring could potentially synchronize health and fitness data with an iPhone it’s paired with, possibly competing with existing products like the Oura Ring and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Ring.
Smart Glasses
Apple has been rumored to have interests in augmented reality (AR) for quite some time hinting at AR glasses based on its Vision Pro headset. However, Gurman indicates that the company has also toyed with the idea of a version of glasses as an initial step, into the world of wearable eyewear. These intelligent glasses have the potential to act as a substitute, for AirPods by combining integrated speakers, cameras, health sensors, and AI functions. While this initiative is currently in the phases of exploration within Apple’s hardware engineering department it offers a prospect, for upcoming wearable devices.
AirPods With Cameras
In a notable exploration, Apple engineers have recently begun examining the feasibility of integrating low-resolution camera sensors into AirPods. If this project comes to fruition, Gurman speculates that these enhanced AirPods could introduce AI features designed to assist users in their daily activities. While details remain scarce, this endeavour highlights Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance the functionality and capabilities of its popular AirPods lineup.
