According to Times of India reporter Marcus Mergulhao, ATK Mohun Bagan centre-back Sandesh Jhingan could be on his way out of the club.
The player has established a great partnership at the back with Spaniard Tiri, but it now seems to be at its end with a move to Europe beckoning. The defender has offers from clubs in Austria, Greece and Croatia. He has a clause in his contract with ATK, stating that he can leave the club if an offer from Europe arrives.
The report further goes on to state that ATK have received two concrete offers for the defender. Jhingan is currently talking with the club to assess the situation and will take a decision in the coming days. Interestingly, he is not a part of the preseason training camp for the club, who have a big challenge ahead of them in the AFC Cup.
Should Jhingan leave the club prior to the competition, ATK will be without one of their best players and could have their chances of performing well significantly reduced. The 28-year-old is currently at the peak of his abilities as a footballer, and was voted the AIFF Player of the Year for 2020.
He spent the entirety of the 19/20 season recovering from an ACL injury and is highly rated by the national team as well. A move to Europe will surely improve his skill set and make him an even more valuable player for the Indian national team.
