About the Europa League final
The match will take place on Wednesday, May 18th, at 21:00 CET. Two 15-minute sessions of extra time are played if the score is tied at the end of normal time.
If one side scores more goals in extra time than the other, that team is declared the winner. If the score is still tied after extra time, kicks from the penalty mark are used to determine the winner.
Where will the final be held?
The final will be held at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Sevilla. The arena, which has been in continuous operation since 1958, hosted games during the 1982 FIFA World Cup and was also the site of Steaua BucureÅŸti’s 1986 European Cup final shoot-out victory over Barcelona. It has a capacity of more than 40,000 people.
Sevilla, the host club, has a special place in UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League history, having won the competition a total of six times; twice as the UEFA Cup and four more times in the UEFA Europa League period, most recently in 2019/20.
What are the prizes for the winners?
The UEFA Europa League trophy is the biggest piece of UEFA silverware, weighing 15 kilograms. It also lacks handles, which adds to the intrigue. The winning team receives 40 gold medals, while the runner-up receives 40 silver medals. No further medals may be made.
If they did not qualify through their local competition, the champions will be placed in the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2022/23.
What is the name of the ‘home’ team?
On March 18, a lottery was held for administrative purposes to choose the nominal home team. The victor of semi-final 2 — West Ham/Lyon vs Frankfurt/Barcelona – will play in the final on May 18 as the ‘home’ team. Both finalists are allowed to wear their first-choice colors, but if there is a clash, the away team must wear an alternate uniform.
