The Europa Conference League finals have now been confirmed after Olympiacos dumped Aston Villa out of the semifinals of the competition. Fiorentina had already sealed their place in the finals of the tournament for a second season in a row, and now, they have the chance to end their long wait for a trophy once again.ย

Unai Emery’s side were trying to advance to their first European final since 1982, but lost 6-2 on aggregate. The team suffered a 4-2 defeat in the first leg, and had to score two goals to level the tie. But, they ended up losing 2-0 in Athens and will now finish the season trophyless. Olympiacos, on the other hand, have made it to their first-ever European final, and could make history if they can win against Fiorentina in the finals.

La Viola were able to win 3-2 against Club Brugge at home to set up an advantage for themselves on the way to Belgium. And in spite of Hans Vanaken helping Brugge take the lead early in the game, a late penalty from Lucas Beltran helped level the tie and ensure that they stayed ahead.

Fiorentina hit the post several times throughout the game, and once they gained control after a good start from Brugge in the second half, they refused to let it go.

A tense finish to the game followed, with several names ending up in the book. But, it was enough for the Serie A club to hold on to their lead and earn another shot at the Conference League title.
