Portugal have qualified for the quarter finals of Euro 2024, defeating Slovenia 3-0 on penalties after the two sides couldn’t be separated over 120 minutes of open play.
Diogo Costa saved the game for his side after pulling off three penalty saved in the shootout to keep an incredible shootout clean sheet. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, was denied the opportunity to win the game for his country from the penalty spot by Jan Oblak.

The Al Nassr striker is one of the most reliable named from the penalty spot, but his wait for a goal at Euro 2024 extends to a fifth straight match after he was unable to score from the spot.
However, he made amends by scoring in the penalty shootout to give Portugal the advantage.
Portugal dominated possession throughout the game, but were unable to beat Oblak in open play. The Atletico Madrid made several fine stops to deny the opposition, while Diogo Costa was also called into making some important saves.
Now, Ronaldo’s side will have to take on France in a repeat of the 2016 finals to earn a place in the semifinals. France haven’t been at their best lately, but they are one of the best teams in the tournament regardless. As a result, it’ll be another tensely contested game when the two giants collide in a week’s time.
