Amidst all the rumours of big European clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool being interested in signing Alexander Isak, the player has signed a new contract with Real Sociedad.
The striker has signed a deal until June 2026, that will see him stay with the Spanish club for the foreseeable future. He enjoyed a very productive season with them in 20/21, scoring 17 goals across 34 appearances in La Liga.
Isak also won the delayed 19/20 Copa del Rey with Sociedad, defeating rivals Athletic Club in the postponed finals.
Isak was previously with Borussia Dortmund, with the German club responsible for discovering him from Swedish club AIK. But, things didn’t work out for him at the Westfalenstadion, and he joined Real Sociedad in 2019 for €15 million. Dortmund included a €35 million buyback clause in his contract. But now that he has agreed a new deal with the Spanish club, that is null and void.
The 21-year-old was one of the breakout stars in Euro 2020. While he didn’t score any goals, he provided two assists in four games and displayed numerous flashes of brilliance throughout the tournament. His stature, speed and ability on the ball makes him a big threat going forward.
The Swedish striker has the potential to evolve into one of the best strikers in the world. All he needs is the right guidance, and a few more years at Sociedad could set him up very well for the next level.
