The 2026 Esports World Cup ([EWC](https://esportsworldcup.com/)) officially began today in Paris, France, marking the event’s first international edition. Organized by the Esports Foundation, the competition will host over 2,000 elite players and 200 esports clubs from more than 100 countries. The tournament, running through August 23 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, features 25 tournaments across 24 popular game titles, offering a record-setting prize pool of $75 million.

The opening press conference at the Hôtel de Ville included remarks from Emmanuel Grégoire, the Mayor of Paris, who welcomed the global esports community. The event highlights the growing integration of competitive gaming within contemporary sport and culture.

## Esports World Cup: Competition Structure and Scale

More than 1.5 million players participated in 330 Road to EWC qualification events globally to secure their positions in the main tournament. The competition’s central feature is the Club Championship, a seven-week contest where club performance across multiple game titles contributes to an overarching ranking. This format rewards sustained excellence and depth across an entire organization. Of the total prize pool, $30 million is allocated to the Club Championship standings, with the winning club set to receive $7 million. Team Falcons is entering the event as the defending champion, having secured victories in the 2024 and 2025 editions.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, noted that the EWC aims to consolidate top players and games onto a singular annual stage. “The Club Championship distinguishes EWC, rewarding not only individual talent but also the consistency and ambition of an entire Club,” Reichert stated.

## Paris as the International Host

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, a Board Member of the Esports Foundation, emphasized the event’s evolution. “While Riyadh remains the origin of the Esports World Cup, our ambition has always been to extend its reach globally. This ambition has led us to Paris, initiating a new phase for our community,” he commented.

Marina Ferrari, France’s Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, expressed the nation’s pride in hosting the event. “This partnership, built on trust, was crucial in enabling us to collectively rise to the challenge of organizing this first international edition of the Esports World Cup in Paris,” Ferrari stated, adding that France plans to present its national esports development strategy for 2026–2030 later this year.

The tournament draws on the city’s established reputation for hosting major international events, positioning the Esports World Cup as a competition designed for global travel and ecosystem unification.
