Erling Haaland has re-signed with Nike after his previous boot sponsorship deal ran out in January 2022. The decision to continue with Nike, according to the Athletic, was made with his heart and not with his head.
Haaland reportedly wants to emulate Ronaldo Nazario, who was a Nike athlete throughout his career. He popularised the Mercurial R9 boots, which were introduced in 1998.
The Manchester City number 9 has been in sensational form ever since he burst onto the scene with RB Salzburg, and has not stopped scoring in spite of moving to the German Bundesliga, and now, the Premier League.
Erling Haaland’s Nike boot deal over a decade long
The 22-year-old has signed a boot sponsorship deal with Nike which is worth £19.3 million, and is expected to last over a decade. Erling Haaland has been with them since the age of 14, and could spend his entire career with the sports outfit giants now.
Adidas and Puma tried to persuade him into signing a deal with them. But, his heart was always set on Nike. He was helped by his agent, Rafaela Pimenta and father, Alfie, who consulted him through the process.
Haaland has been in spectacular form this season, scoring 42 goals in 37 games across all competitions. He has been breaking records every week, and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
