Erik Ten Hag is plotting a move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn in the summer once he is appointed as the new manager of Manchester United. The Dutchman is in the final stages of agreeing a three-year contract with the Premier League giants to take over from next season.
The manager tried to sign Bergwijn in the past, most recently with Ajax. Tottenham and Ajax were in talks for the player, but the move was ultimately blocked by the London club as they chose to keep him until the end of the season.
Erik Ten Hag to try signing Steven Bergwijn in the summer for Manchester United
Antonio Conte’s side signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus during the winter transfer window. The Swede has become a vital part of the starting line-up, which has pushed Steven Bergwijn to the background at the team.
And as a result, a bargain move for the Dutch international seems possible at the end of the season. The price tag quoted for him is in the region of £20 million. The wages that he currently earns at Spurs is around £100,000 – and would be affordable for Manchester United as well.
With Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani set to leave the club at the end of the campaign, Steven Bergwijn could be a valuable addition to the squad in the summer when Ten Hag eventually takes over.
