Erik Ten Hag has emerged as the frontrunner for the role of the new Manchester United manager. The club conducted an interview with the Ajax head coach a few weeks ago, and a second round of discussions is understood to have taken place regarding the job.
Several other candidates have been considered to replace Ralf Rangnick permanently. Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui, PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique of the Spanish national team have all been linked with the Old Trafford bench. But now, it seems that Manchester United are getting increasingly confident about Erik Ten Hag.
Erik Ten Hag favourite to be new Manchester United boss
Erik Ten Hag has been urged by former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal to not take up the job, saying that they are a more commercial club than a football club. The Ajax boss is yet to make his final decision about his future.
As for now, he has stated that he is committed to Ajax until the end of the season. The Dutch club has a KNVB Cup final meeting scheduled against PSV Eindhoven on April 17. They also have a difficult final few months of the Eredivisie left. Although they are currently at the top of the league, they will need to be at their best to fend off PSV, who are two points behind them.
Manchester United will have to pay £4 million in compensation to the Dutch side if they are to sign Erik Ten Hag for the coming season.
