Barcelona have loaned out Eric Garcia to Girona for the 23/24 season, with the move confirmed by both clubs. The defender has been signed on a straight loan deal with no buy option, which means he will return to Barca next summer once he completes his loan spell.Â
The Spaniard was unable to secure a starting spot under Xavi Hernandez, and has now left in search of regular playing time. His departure has opened up space on the club’s books to register Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix with both Portuguese players signed on loan on deadline day.Â

Since joining Barcelona as a free agent after leaving Manchester City, Garcia’s stock has dropped significantly. The defender first lost his place to Marcos Alonso, with the former Chelsea man playing in central defence.
And now with the arrival of Cancelo, Jules Kounde will be shifting to central defence. And this would restrict Eric Garcia’s game time even further. As a result, the move to Girona could prove to be a smart one considering his demands.
Barcelona have had a busy end to the transfer window, offloading Ansu Fati and Abde while signing Cancelo and Felix. They have also bolstered their midfield with Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu while letting go of Ousmane Dembele.
