Chelsea are in direct contact with Benfica for the transfer of Enzo Fernandez. The midfielder was named the young player of the tournament at the 2022 World Cup, and could now seal a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool and Manchester United are the other teams interested in his signature, but haven’t made any concrete offer. So far, Chelsea are ahead in the race since they have opened negotiations on the terms of payment.

Chelsea in talks with Benfica over Enzo Fernandez transfer

The release clause for the Argentina international is worth €120 million, and the Portuguese club want it paid in full. But, Chelsea are not willing to pay that amount in one go and want to discuss an alternative payment structure for the talented youngster.

In either case, it will be a record transfer for the West London side, whose most expensive deal was for Romelu Lukaku just over a year ago.

Enzo Fernandez joined Benfica very recently from Argentina, and has seen his stock skyrocket. Especially after his performance with Argentina at the World Cup, he has become one of the most coveted youngsters in world football.

His versatility in the heart of the park makes him a very useful player, and with Chelsea looking to lower the average age of their squad, he could be a very strong addition. Fernandez has said yes to a move to the Blues, but the two clubs need to reach an agreement for the transfer to go through.
