Are You Being Served?

A large, old-fashioned department store in London, Grace Brothers is still run on strictly hierarchical lines. Each member of staff knows their place - in theory. In practice, they are all engaged in their own private wars.

The shenanigans continue in season 2 when shoplifters prompt the store to install CCTV, but the staff worry it will capture more than the thieves.

Mr Humphries practices some palm-reading. Mr Grainger lands himself in hot water by refusing to adhere to a new management scheme and Captain Peacock is rewarded for 25 years of service with the key to the Executive Toilet!

Young Mr Grace wants to start opening the store at 8:30am so that people can shop on the way to work and the staff start preparing for a ballroom dancing competition.

To increase sales, Young Mr Grace introduces new informal American-style sales. An eavesdropped conversation leads the staff to believe that Mrs Slocombe is pregnant, and the staff put on a show for Young Mr Grace’s 80th Birthday.

The staff are excited to hear that the Queen and Prince Philip may pay a visit to Grace Brothers, meanwhile Young Mr Grace has offered to staff membership of the store's social club, but on one condition…

The staff's choice of a new junior causes Captain Peacock some surprise and Mrs Slocombe moves into a Grace Brothers display apartment after her home is occupied by squatters.

Captain Peacock's wife starts work as Mr Rumbold's new secretary - can this be the beginnings of an affair? Meanwhile the staff are quarantined in the Grace Brothers basement after contracting a strange tropical illness.

Mr Humphries is accused of stealing and has to undergo a shop floor trial while the problems of a pay freeze and possible Japanese takeover are complicated by an escaped monkey.
