English clubs record a sensational €742 million spent in the January transfer window

FIFA states the big figure accounts for a 150% increase in the club’s spending in 2022 January. Chelsea leads the spending, as American owner Todd Boehly recorded a €323m last month on fresh entries. The club spent the highest even combining all other clubs in Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Bundesliga.

They completed Enzo Fernandez’s transfer from Benfica on the deadline day for €107m as the Argentina star signed up for a record British transfer. Another two among the eight signings in January are Ukrainian winger Mykhalio Mudryk and French defender Benoit Badiashile. They joined at the respective amounts of €88m and €35m.

The inclusion took Todd Boehly’s spend to a staggering €566m since he took over the Blues last summer.

Newcastle, and Liverpool complete a major deal too

Among other English clubs closing premium deals last month are Newcastle and Liverpool. Anthony Gordon moved from Everton to Newcastle for €45m while Cody Gakpo signed up with Liverpool from PSV for €44m.

The second highest spend came from the French clubs which is €108m for the transfers, as stated by FIFA. The next on the list is the German clubs, spending a total of €71m. The next two consecutive names in the last are the Brazilian and Portuguese clubs spending the respective transfer amounts of €58m and €39m.
