Emirates 2022: Mumbai Indians, Knight Riders buy teams for the new league in UAE

The Emirates Cricket Board is all set to reveal the “MINI_IPL” of UAE. Most of the teams ready to unveil ‘MINI-IPL’ of sort in UAE. The teams of Emirates T20 League are bought by promoters who have direct connection with the IPL franchises. The Times Of India (TOI) reported that Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capital (DC) have bought teams in 6 team franchise league. They will be ready to launch in January 2022.

Mini IPL in UAE?

Multiple time IPL winner Mumbai Insians, Sharukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders franchise, Kiran Kumar Gandi’s Delhi Capitals have bought teams in this league.

The organisers desired Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to to buy a team but CSK decided to stay out of the league.

Some other owners even have direct connection with IPL.

Team Owners who have IPL and Emirates T20 League connection

  • Mumbai Indians
  • Knight Riders franchsie owned by Shahrukh Khan & KKR
  • Kiran Kumar Gandhi – 50% ownership of Delhi Capitals
  • Capri Global – Recently they placed an unsuccesful bid for IPL TEAM
  • Glazer Family – Manchester United owners also had recently bidded for IPL Team
  • Sydney Sixers – Big Bash League team buys Emirates T20 Team

he fact that The league is conceptualised by ex CEO of IPL Sundar Raman. The league will be owned by Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Reports state that the league will start most probably from January 2022 and the owners of different teams will be announced officially very soon.

Will Indian players be a part of the league?

Till date BCCI hasn’t allowed any of the Indian players to play T20 leagues internationally. With Emirates League it can change as well.

BCCI has a rapport with ECB. In fact ECB has hosted two seasons of IPL in UAE. (2021 and 2022).

ECB is confident that BCCI will allow some of the Indian players to play in the league. With Mumbai Indians and KKR buying teams, it’s actually feasible that BCCI decides to change its mind.
