Elon Musk now wants to create a new social media game to create his own rival to Twitter and other platforms.
A debate has been started by the tech magnate on Twitter that whether the platform suited best for the purpose or not. Elon Musk is the world’s wealthiest person. He has asked his followers to engage with a poll by asking whether Twitter adhered to the principle of free speech.
On Friday, Elon Musk has tweeted, “Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy,”
“Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?”
Along with the question, it was accompanied by a simple yes-no response poll. The poll was overwhelmingly won by the “No” side with almost over 70 percent of votes.
Musk has asked people to “vote carefully” as the “consequences of [the] poll will be important.”
Musk has voiced his dissatisfaction with the website of late, particularly in what he has believed were free speech violations. But now he has exactly posed the question that whether a new platform is needed or not.
Elon Musk’s new idea regarding social media platform
While replying to Pranay Pathole, Musk has said that he was giving “serious thought” about setting up his own competitor and branching out in the social media field, a platform where there will be a place of free space at its heart and ostensibly keep propaganda out.
Twitter has been claimed as a private company by many users, free speech principles do not apply. It is much like any private establishment that has the right to set its own rules and deny its entry or services on its own terms. Meanwhile, he has suggested responding in the modern world that platforms like Twitter are the closest things where people can gather publicly to debate.
On Saturday Elon Musk has twitted that “Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?”
It is going to be interesting to see whether Musk will create a new platform or not? His task may be complicated and his vision was flawed, but the exact period is still unknown when Elon Musk will set his mind finally to do so.
