Netflix’s French thriller “[Elite Force](https://www.netflix.com/title/81991749)” just delivered one of the year’s most gut-punching finales — and if you’ve finished all six episodes, you already know the real target was never who anyone thought.

The finale throws GIGN commander David straight into his worst nightmare: a hostage situation at his daughter Manon’s music academy. What looks like a standard terrorist standoff quickly reveals itself as something far more personal, engineered by Amal Mayard — the mother of a young boy killed years earlier in an operation connected to David’s past.

## Elite Force: The Finale, Broken Down

| Moment | What Happens |
| --- | --- |
| The Setup | Hostage crisis erupts at Manon’s music academy |
| The Reveal | Terrorist leader Amal Mayard has a personal vendetta against David |
| The Rescue | GIGN team neutralizes the terrorists, frees the hostages |
| The Twist | Amal was never really after the hostages |
| The Real Target | David’s partner, Jess |
| The Ending | Jess is killed by a car bomb as David watches, helpless |

As David’s team scrambles to defuse the situation and rescue Manon, who’s handcuffed to explosives, Amal detonates a device and takes her own life. It’s only afterward, while searching her storage unit, that the team realizes the entire hostage crisis was an elaborate decoy — Amal had been tracking Jess the whole time. The season closes on David watching Jess die in an explosion he never saw coming, a bleak gut-punch of an ending that offers no easy resolution.

GIGN is the elite tactical unit of the French National Gendarmerie, tasked with counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and other high-risk operations, and the real unit’s high-stakes reputation lends the show’s fictional stakes extra weight.

As for Season 2, nothing has been officially confirmed. Star Tomer Sisley has acknowledged Jess’s death was “planned from the start,” but hasn’t said whether more seasons are coming. Given the show’s strong ratings performance and Netflix’s recent pattern of renewing successful French originals, the odds look decent — even if nothing’s locked in yet.
