Bayern Munich U19 midfielder Marcel Wenig has decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season. The youngster’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side for a free transfer.
The 17-year-old has been with the Bavarian club since 2017, and will be moving to Frankfurt as the next step in his career. Whether or not he will be a part of the first team is something that remains to be seen.
Marcel Wenig to join Eintracht Frankfurt
The German attacking midfielder has scored five goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich’s youth team this season. Wenig is a very highly rated youngster and is poised to be among the top talents in the coming years.Â
Frankfurt have confirmed the arrival of Marcel Wenig in the summer as well, and have further stated that the player has signed a contract until June 2025 too.
Their sports director Markus Krösche said: “With Marcel Wenig we are gaining a great German midfield talent. Over the past five years he has enjoyed training at the highest level at FC Bayern Munich and we would like to continue to develop it. At his age, Marcel is of course only at the beginning of his development in the men’s division, which is why we will build him up carefully.”
Alongside the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz, Wenig could be the next prolific attacking midfielder to represent Germany in the future.
