Eduardo Camavinga was presented as a Real Madrid player today, after the club confirmed his signing in the final days of the summer transfer window. The player has been given the number 25 jersey at his new club, which previously belonged to Rodrygo. The Brazilian has taken up number 21 after the departure of Martin Odegaard to Arsenal.
The player began speaking about his feelings about the transfer after a short speech by Florentino Perez.
“I’m very happy to be here. I’m very proud to come and defend this badge. I want to thank the president and all my family. If anybody had told me a few years ago that I’d be here then I wouldn’t have believed them. Hala Madrid!”
He was also asked about the deciding factors in making the switch from Rennes to the biggest club in the world, and here is what he had to say:
“The main factor for this decision wasn’t money. It was to complete a dream I’d had since I was a child. I wanted to play with the great players here, who’ll teach me a lot. I didn’t think twice when it came up and I’m very happy. I’ll give my all for this club.”
Camavinga is one of the most talented young midfielders in the world, and can deliver an all-round performance in the heart of the park. While it is difficult to see him starting ahead of the established trio of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric, he will surely provide extra depth to the squad.
In any case, he has a contract until 2027 and is only 18 years old right now. He is certainly a part of Real Madrid’s future alongside Federico Valverde, and could be a regular starter in the next couple of seasons. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him being given a chance in the starting line-up by Ancelotti this term as well.
