Tottenham are interested in bringing in a new centre-back ahead of the new season. Edmond Tapsoba has been heavily linked as a concrete option for the London club, with the Bayer Leverkusen player open to leaving. He is their top target, but a deal hasn’t materialised so far.
Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven has also been linked with a move, but according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club will only sign one of the centre-backs this summer. So far, nothing advanced has been discussed with any club or player yet and the conditions of a deal are still being discussed.
Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven on Tottenham’s list
Edmond Tapsoba has been with Bayer Leverkusen since 2020 and was particularly impressive during the 2022/23 season. He has been linked with clubs like Manchester United in the past. However, a move for the Burkinabe hasn’t come around as of yet.
He has a contract with Leverkusen until 2026, which means that they aren’t in a rush to sell him. As a result, Tottenham might have to pay a significant amount to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
They have seen Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez after an underwhelming season, and need reinforcements to bolster their defence. With Hugo Lloris potentially leaving the club, they have signed Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli to become their new first choice keeper.
And now, they will need to invest in the backline ahead of their new shotstopper to help Ange Postecoglou turn things around from last season.
