Valencia are set to sign Edinson Cavani as a free agent in the coming hours. A total agreement is in place between the player and the club for the transfer. As a result, the move should be made official soon once the formalities have been completed.

Cavani is expected to be in Madrid today to finalise the transfer. And within the next 24 hours, he should be a new player for the La Liga side. The striker has agreed to a two-year deal with Valencia, and is now ready for a new chapter in his career.

Real Sociedad were in talks to sign the veteran as the replacement for Alexander Isak, but only offered him a one-year deal. As a result, he has not accepted their offer and will be playing under Gennaro Gattuso this season. The manager strongly wanted to sign Edinson Cavani, and now has his man.

Villarreal were also one of the names on the table, which would have seen Cavani reunite with Unai Emery. Moreover, the option to return to South America with Boca Juniors was also available. But amongst all the offers, the one presented by Valencia has won his approval.

Cavani left Manchester United upon the expiry of his contract following a difficult second season. He is now expected to be a key part of the new project under Gattuso.
