Arsenal have reportedly helped a meeting to sign Chelsea legend Eden Hazard from Real Madrid on a loan transfer. The Belgian winger is struggling at the Spanish capital after a big money move in 2019, and he has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club. As a result, they are looking to offload him as soon as possible in the summer.
The player is on a €20 million per season wage, and has contributed little to the first team during his time with Los Blancos. Hazard’s constant injuries are the main reason behind his inconsistencies, and he has become a shadow of his former self over the last three years.
Arsenal in talks to sign Eden Hazard from Real Madrid
With Vinicius Jr establishing himself as an automatic starter on the left-wing, Real Madrid have little need for Hazard. They also have Rodrygo Goes, Marco Asensio and Isco in the team in case they need someone to fill in for the in-form Brazilian.
Moving the Belgian’s massive wages off the books is the main target in the summer transfer window. And a loan deal where Madrid could remove a chunk of the money could be the only option for them considering Eden Hazard’s disappointing run in Spain.
He wouldn’t be the first Chelsea legend to play for their local rivals, though. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech swapped the Blues for Arsenal before ending his career. And now, it could be Hazard’s turn to repeat the same.
