Former East Bengal centre back Raju Gaikwad is set to rejoin the club in the ISL in January. According to journalist Marcus Mergulhao, the defender has once again agreed on terms with his former club and is set to join soon.
The newly introduced club have had a horrifying start to the season, with three losses in three games played. Furthermore, they are yet to score their first goal in the ISL. East Bengal currently sit last in the table and have the worst defensive record of all the clubs in the competition, conceding 7 goals in three games so far.
Gaikwad rejoining East Bengal is news that could not have come at a better time for the fans of the Red and Yellow club. The defender has 6 season’s worth of experience in the ISL previously, having applied his trade to clubs like FC Goa, Mumbai City FC, Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters, most recently before becoming a free agent in July.
Standing at 1.8 metres tall, the centre back has also managed to get 24 caps for the Indian national team.
At 30, the Mumbai born defender has a plethora of experience to offer to the currently disorientated East Bengal defense. Robbie Fowler’s recent injury concerns are also not making things any easier.
Club captain Danny Fox is already set to miss some time out on the sidelines owing to an injury he suffered in the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mumbai City FC.
East Bengal need a hero right now, as bad as they have ever. Fans all across the country will be hoping that Danny Fox recovers as quickly as possible. Moreover, Gaikwad’s reported signing could also add composure and experience the Gold and Red backline to help turn the season around.
