It’s the signing that signals the start of something serious. Pending medical results, Miguel Figueira is set to join Mohun Bagan Super Giant — and with that, the ISL 2026-27 transfer window has officially produced its first marquee move.

## Who Is Miguel Figueira?

Miguel Figueira is a Portuguese defender who has carved out a reputation as one of the more technically assured foreign centre-backs to have played in the Indian Super League. Commanding in the air, composed on the ball, and experienced in the demands of Indian football, Figueira brings exactly the kind of profile Mohun Bagan have been targeting as they reshape their squad under a new head coach.

His arrival would address one of the Mariners’ most pressing needs heading into the new season — defensive solidity and leadership at the back.

## The Bigger Picture at Mohun Bagan

This deal doesn’t exist in isolation. Mohun Bagan have already signed Samir Zeljković from Punjab FC and are in advanced discussions over a new head coach. Figueira’s arrival would make it back-to-back defensive signings — a clear indication of where the Green and Maroon believe last season’s squad needed strengthening most.

The Mariners finished the 2024-25 campaign without silverware after East Bengal’s historic ISL title triumph, and the board has clearly communicated that a full rebuild is underway. Figueira, if confirmed, would be the first big name to put pen to paper this window.
