East Bengal FC are expected to be active in the January transfer window to make changes to their squad. The club yesterday confirmed the departure of Mobashir Rahman to Chennaiyin FC on loan for the remainder of the season.
The player joined the Red and Gold club from Jamshedpur FC last season, and made 13 appearances. But this year, his game time has been very limited, making only one appearance this far. As a result, he has moved on in search of more game time, becoming the first new signing for the Machans during the midseason transfer window.
East Bengal FC transfers update in January: Mobashir Rahman loaned
A reunion with former Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle could have been one of the reasons behind his departure. The Indian will be expected to add a new dynamic to the team’s midfield, now that he has been officially announced as a new signing.
Mobashir Rahman is likely to debut for Chennaiyin FC in the Kalinga Super Cup, when the team faces Punjab FC in their opening fixture. The team is currently 7th in the ISL table, earning 12 points from as many games.
In terms of incoming transfers, East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat has mentioned that the club has time till January 13 to make new signings. With six foreign players registered for the upcoming Kalinga Super Cup, it seems likely that no new foreigners will join the club, ruling out a potential transfer for Iago Falque, after being heavily rumoured in the last few days.
A new domestic player could join them, with Nikhil Poojary being one of the possible names now that he is set to leave Hyderabad FC. However, a new addition in attack is what the club needs more since their lack of quality options up front has been a problem this year.
