East Bengal FC have become the first to claim their spot in the finals of the Kalinga Super Cup 2024, defeating Jamshedpur FC 2-0 at the Kalinga Stadium. Goals from Javi Siverio and Hijazi Maher were sufficient to see off the Men of Steel, in spite of a spirited display in the semi finals.

East Bengal’s centre-back from Jordan opened the scoring in the 19th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. The defender has been a very impressive addition to the team this season, and he has earned his place as one of the best players in India right now with his performance in the Super Cup.

Jamshedpur FC had very few meaningful chances in the game, with a strong effort in the first half blocked by Pardo. Prabhsukhan Gill was hardly called into action over the second half, but was caught in a tight situation after spilling a cross in a crowded penalty box.

Javi Siverio produced a calm finish to convert Nishu Kumar’s cross after beating the keeper from close range to make it 2-0, adding a goal to the game after producing an immense work rate.

Club captain Cleiton Silva had the opportunity to make it 3-0 after youngster Sayan Banerjee earned a penalty in the final few minutes of the game. But, the striker opted for power and hit the crossbar with his effort, keeping the scoreline intact.

Carles Cuadrat’s side have a second cup final of the season this Sunday, and will face the winner of Odisha FC vs Mumbai City FC. They will be hoping to finally earn the win this time, making up for the heartbreak of the Durand Cup final in the summer.
