SC East Bengal’s introduction to the ISL has been close to a nightmare for the fans of the club. Their opening match was against Kolkata derby rivals ATK Mohun Bagan. The newcomers lost the encounter 2-0 but looked decent in their display, but had much work to be done.
If the humiliating 5 goal deficit against ATKMB and Mumbai City wasn’t enough, club captain Danny Fox is confirmed to have suffered an injury by manager Robbie Fowler.
“We are not sure about his injury status. Hopefully, we’ll be able to find out in the next two days about the extent of the injury,” East Bengal assistant coach Tony Grant told the club’s website on Wednesday.
“It’s too early to say anything. His leg is a bit sore now, but he is due to go for a scan. We don’t have the exact information right now.”
The Captain was subbed off within the first quarter of the match and is rumoured to be sure to miss the next match against NorthEast United tomorrow.
Loken Meitei featured in the match against ATKMB but has suffered a sort of tear, according to the assistant manager. Â
“(He) has sustained some sort of a tear. He had been training well, so the boy is really upset. We’re not sure as to how long he will be out of action. But he has been hitting the gym every day and will give himself the best chance to come back as early as possible,” said Grant.
In order to cope with their injury crisis, East Bengal are reportedly arranging measures to fly in players from the reserve squad to make up the numbers.
Defender Anil Chauhan and midfielder Milan Singh, along with Brandon Vanlalremdika have been asked to travel to Goa. It is worth keeping in mind that these players won’t be available immediately and will have to isolate for 14 days before getting a chance to feature.
