Dusan Tadic of Ajax has broken Lionel Messi’s record of the most assists in a calendar year, according to the International Champions Cup.
The Ajax forward has been one of the star players yet again this season, and has matched the seven-time Ballon d’Or award winner’s 36 assists in one year.
Dusan Tadic’s incredible season
In 17 Eredivisie games this season, Tadic has provided 11 assists and scored seven goals. He has one each in the Champions League, and has been a reliable player for the Dutch club over the last few years, and continues to deliver for them.
Messi set the record of 36 assists in one year during his unreplicable prime year, 2011. Tadic, on the other hand, is currently 33 years old and is playing very well. He still has one more game to extend his record, with the fixture against Fortuna Sittard on 22nd December.
While Tadic is a recognised assist provider, he also has an eye for goal. A combination of these two skills make him an immense threat for the opposition. The Ajax number 10 has eight goals across all competitions this season, which further proves the point.
The Serbian international leads the Eredivisie for the total goal contributions this season. Ajax are battling PSV for the league title, and are only one point behind their rivals in the table.
They also have a fair shot in the Champions League last 16, as they face Benfica across two legs.
