Douglas Luiz has signed a new contract with Aston Villa until 2026. The formalities have all been completed for the midfielder’s extension, and the club has made it official on their website and social media platforms.
The negotiations for the new deal started right after Villa rejected three bids from Arsenal on deadline day. The London club wanted to sign the player late in the window, but Villa were clear that Luiz was not for sale. And now, he has committed to the club for the foreseeable future.
Douglas Luiz new contract ends transfer speculation
The Brazilian made the move to Villa Park in 2019, and has since become one of the most important members of the project. He has made over 100 appearances for the club since joining.
Douglas Luiz’s previous deal was set to run out at the end of the season which made it all the more important for him to sign a new contract. Arsenal were still monitoring the player, and would’ve moved for him if he left Aston Villa as a free agent next summer.
But now, their plans have been squandered with the player committing to the Clarets. He will next be seen in action in the Premier League against Chelsea this weekend.
