Douglas Costa has officially left LA Galaxy after spending one season with them, and is now available as a free agent. The Brazilian joined them last year as a free agent after leaving Juventus upon the expiry of his contract. And now, he is looking for another new challenge to take up from the January transfer window.
This season, he scored three goals and provided four assists in 19 MLS games, with the team finishing second last in the Western Conference.
Douglas Costa leaves LA Galaxy after only one season
The winger had briefly played for Galaxy in 2022, before returning to Gremio, and then Juventus. He decided to make the switch permanent later that year, but things haven’t worked out as well as he had hoped.
Now, his agents are exploring opportunities in Saudi Arabia, where clubs have been extremely active in trying to sign players from Europe. Having featured for giants like Bayern Munich and Juventus in the past, Douglas Costa could be one of the first new signings for the PIF-funded clubs in the winter transfer window.
However, a return to his native Brazil could also be on the cards, with the player featuring for Gremio prior to his move to the United States.
Injuries prevented Costa from fulfilling his potential at Bayern as well as Juventus. But, he still remains a skillful and influential player on his day. At 33, he is in the final stages of his career and could earn a significant payout with a move to the Middle East at the turn of the year.
