Donny Van de Beek has been a subject of great debate among Manchester United fans. The Dutchman made an ambitious move to Manchester United from Ajax, but spent most of the season on the bench while Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred got the majority of opportunities in midfield.
Rumours have now been doing the rounds about Real Madrid being interested in bringing him over. Considering United’s interest in Raphael Varane as a target this summer, Van de Beek was expected to be included in the negotiations. However, Fabrizio Romano states that nothing of the sort has been discussed yet.
While his position within the squad is yet unclear, United do not want to let go of the Dutchman after only one season. On the other hand, they are confident that they can match Real Madrid’s asking price for the 2018 World Cup winner.
Varane is keen to try something new, and could follow Sergio Ramos out the exit door at Real Madrid. He has rejected advances from Madrid regarding a contract extension to illustrate the same. His deal expires in 2022, and Madrid would rather cash in on him than risk losing him for a free transfer next season.
United have made contact with Real Madrid regarding their centre-back, and are yet to get a formal quote from the club. They haven’t made a formal bid just yet, but are the frontrunners to land his signature this summer.
