The Dolphins won’t be turning to someone familiar with the offence to replace Tua Tagovailoa.
The Dolphins are expected to sign quarterback Tyler Huntley, the second quarterback Baltimore drafted this season, off the practice squad, per NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
Tyler Huntley Joins Dolphins Amid Uncertainty Over Tua Tagovailoa’s Return
Among them: C.J. Beathard, who knows the Miami offense from his time in San Francisco, made the short list. Others—not so much. A prime example: Mike White, former Dolphins backup quarterback.
Huntley spent four years with Baltimore and then joined Cleveland. When the latter franchise let him go, he returned back to Baltimore.
Huntley somehow made it to the Pro Bowl in 2022 despite only six appearances and four starts.
He joins Skylar Thompson as the other healthy quarterback on the active roster. Tim Boyle remains on the Miami practice squad. Still, with the length of Tua’s absence unknown, whether this replacement is needed for a little while or very well into the foreseeable future remains to be seen.
