Novak Djokovic has now beaten Roger Federer’s record of holding the ATP Men’s World number 1 ranking for 310 weeks, entering his 311th week at the top of the charts. The Serbian superstar will be completing 6 years at the top of the rankings next week when he reaches 312 weeks as the number 1 tennis player in the world.

“This is one of my two biggest professional goals,” Djokovic said last year. “To reach the record of, (and) surpass Roger’s record for longest No. 1 and win as many (Grand) Slams as possible.”

“Whether I think about winning more slams and breaking records? Of course, I do,” the Serbian said after his Australian Open triumph.

“And most of my attention and my energy from this day forward, until I retire from tennis, is going to be directed at majors, trying to win more major trophies.”

The player has won 18 Grand Slam titles, and despite staying at the top of the rankings for so long, lags behind Federer and Nadal who share 20 titles each. His 18th Grand Slam title was the Australian Open that Djokovic won last month, and according to the man himself, the numbers will only get higher.

“It really excites me to walk the path of legends and giants of this sport,” said Djokovic, in a statement released by the ATP.

“To know that I earned my place among them by following my childhood dream is a beautiful confirmation that when you do things out of love and passion, everything is possible.”
