Carls Date OTT Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Expectation

Pixar enthusiasts will delight in the news that one of the studio’s most cherished films, “Up,” is receiving a heartwarming follow-up in the form of a short film accompanying their upcoming feature, “Elemental.” Titled “Carl’s Date,” this endearing short ventures into Carl’s (voiced by the late Ed Asner) world once more, joined by his faithful companion Dug (Bob Peterson), as they confront their most significant challenge yet: preparing Carl for his first date since the passing of his beloved wife, Ellie.

Ellie played an integral role in the original 2009 film, despite her departure occurring before the main events of the story. Her presence resonates throughout “Up,” as Carl grapples with the pain of losing his soulmate. The film’s poignant opening sequence, which beautifully chronicles the couple’s relationship, remains etched in audiences’ memories as one of Pixar’s most profound and heartrending scenes.

Themes of love and grief permeate the narrative, intertwining with Carl’s journey. By the film’s conclusion, Carl establishes a newfound family with Dug and the well-intentioned Boy Scout, Russell (voiced by Jordan Nagai), epitomizing the power of connection and resilience. “Carl’s Date” continues to explore Carl’s life as he embarks on a path of rediscovery.

The synopsis for the short reads:

“Moviegoers will reconnect with Carl as he reluctantly agrees to embark on a date with a lady friend. However, Carl finds himself completely clueless about the intricacies of modern dating. Ever the loyal and helpful friend, Dug steps in to assuage Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer tried-and-true advice on building friendships—through a dog’s perspective.”

While “Up” received its first sequel in the form of the series “Dug’s Day” on Disney+ in 2021, which followed Carl’s canine companion in five endearing shorts set in the suburbs, “Carl’s Date” brings the focus back to the beloved widower. The short will be showcased alongside “Elemental,” continuing Pixar’s tradition of pairing their feature films with captivating animated shorts on the silver screen. The last instance of this pairing was the heartwarming short “Bao,” screened before “Incredibles 2” in 2018.

Now, let’s delve into the enchanting world of “Elemental,” set in the captivating Element City. The film revolves around the extraordinary relationship between Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie), an embodiment of Water, and Ember Lumen (voiced by Leah Lewis), a representation of Fire. Directed by Peter Sohn, known for his work on Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” and his contributions to acclaimed films like “Finding Nemo” and “The Incredibles,” “Elemental” promises a remarkable exploration of the dynamics between these opposing forces. Sohn’s extensive involvement with Pixar includes voice roles in films such as “Ratatouille,” where he lent his voice to Remy’s brother, Emile.

“Carl’s Date” was expertly crafted by director and writer Bob Peterson, an esteemed Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner. Kim Collins took on the role of producer, contributing to the short’s heartfelt storytelling. Audiences can look forward to the release of this delightful short alongside “Elemental” on June 16, bringing Pixar’s enchantment back to the silver screen. Be sure to catch the accompanying trailer for a glimpse into the joyous world of “Carl’s Date” and the captivating journey of “Elemental.”
