Positioned as the successor to the Nothing Phone (1), this device packs a punch with its MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, claimed by Nothing to be a custom chipset boasting enhanced efficiency, the question on everyone’s mind is: How does the Dimensity 7200 Pro stack up against formidable competitors like the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and Snapdragon 782G? Let’s embark on a detailed benchmark comparison to unravel the performance differences between these chipsets.

Specifications Comparison

The Dimensity 7200 Pro fabricated using TSMCs generation 4nm process features an octa-core CPU comprising 2 Cortex A715 cores clocked at 2.8GHz and 6 Cortex A510 cores running at 2.0GHz. It comes with an ARM Mali G610 MP4 GPU, MediaTek APU 650 NPU, and MediaTeks 5G Modem reaching a peak download speed of 4.7Gbps.

On the other hand, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is crafted on TSMC’s 4nm process. Offers an octa-core CPU, with four Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four Cortex A55 cores operating at 1.95GHz. It is paired with an Adreno 710 GPU and Snapdragon X62 5G Modem achieving a peak download speed of up to 2.9Gbps.

The Snapdragon 782G developed on TSMC’s process of the sizeable core including one Cortex A78 core running at a swift pace of up to GHz followed by three additional Cortex A78 cores clocked at a decent rate of GHz along with four Cortex A55 cores operating at a speed of GHz. This device also comes equipped with an Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU for AI task processing capabilities, and a Snapdragon X53 modem capable of reaching download speeds peaking at GBps.

Geekbench

In the Geekbench CPU comparison test version six conducted on devices like Nothing Phone (model number; ‘2a’) powered by Dimensity7200 Pro achieved scores of single-core performance reaching points high while in multi-core testing it scored. In comparison, the Poco X6, which is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor achieved a single-core score of 1,032 and a multi-core score of 2,978. On the hand, the OnePlus Nord CE 3 featuring the Snapdragon 782G chipset obtained a single-core score of 1,135 and a respectable multi-core score of 2,947.

CPU throttling

When it comes to CPU throttling testing despite the Snapdragon 782G, the OnePlus Nord CE 3 outperforms both the Dimensity 7200 Pro and Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processors, in this aspect OnePlus deserves praise for incorporating a large vapor chamber cooling system to maintain performance. Nevertheless, the Dimensity 7200 Pro on the Nothing Phone (2a) also exhibited impressive performance without any noticeable drops, showcasing efficient instruction execution comparable to the Snapdragon 782G.

AnTuTu Benchmark

In the AnTuTu benchmark, the Nothing Phone (2a) emerged victorious with a total score of 708,424 points, surpassing both Snapdragon chipsets. While the Snapdragon 782G performed well with a score of 704,138 points, it fell short of outperforming the Dimensity 7200 Pro.

3DMark GPU Test

Testing the GPU performance, the Mali G610 MC4 GPU on the Dimensity 7200 Pro showcased exceptional results with the Nothing Phone 2a achieving the best loop score of 4,130 in the 3DMark Wild Life Stress test. In comparison, the Adreno 710 GPU on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and the Adreno 642 GPU on the Snapdragon 782G lagged behind, achieving loop scores of 3,029 and 2,861, respectively.

Connectivity 5G Speed Test

Concluding with the 5G speed test, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 exhibited superior performance with a peak download speed of 637 Mbps and a peak upload speed of 70.7 Mbps on the Airtel 5G network. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 782G achieved a peak download speed of 426 Mbps and an upload speed of 16.9 Mbps. The MediaTek 5G modem in the Dimensity 7200 Pro achieved download and upload speeds of 361 Mbps and 29.3 Mbps, respectively, on Jio’s 5G network.
